PROVIDENCE, RI. February 26, 2007. Day One, the Sexual Assault and Trauma Resource Center, has
announced that its 10th Annual Children's Advocacy Center Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, May 14, 2007 at the Potowomut Golf Club in Warwick, Rhode Island. All proceeds from the event will go towards
the Rhode Island Children's Advocacy Center (CAC), a program of Day One.
The CAC is a community partnership of professionals committed to both the pursuit of truth in child abuse
investigations and the well being of the child. The CAC provides evaluation, evidence gathering, and treatment services to child victims of sexual and/or physical abuse and their non-offending family members.
In a child-friendly facility, a team of professionals comes together to reduce the trauma associated with disclosing abuse by:
- Limiting the number of forensic interviews a child must endure;
- Conducting a medical evaluation to assess the child's health care needs;
- Coordinating follow-up mental health treatment for the child victim and non-offending family members; and
- Helping the child navigate the criminal justice system.
The cross-disciplinary team includes representatives from child protective services, law enforcement, criminal justice, victim advocacy agencies, and the medical and mental health communities.
In 2006, 235 children and families received services from the CAC.
